Bowen Therapy

Bowen is a very gentle soft tissue therapy originating in Australia since the 1950’s.  The therapist will use small muscle moves that will stimulate the nervous system.   When the muscles are rolled, it sends nerve impulses to the brain to balance the body and promote self-healing.  Everyone has the same first treatment, where the therapist must realign the spine before work can be done on the extremities.  This is because if there is a blockage in the spine, working on the extremities is pointless.  Once you get into the second and third treatments, that is where the moves will be geared towards your specific conditions.  Treatments last from 45min to an hour, however, the therapist will not have contact with you for that full session.  They will do 2-8 small moves and then leave the room for 2-5 minutes.  This rest period is very important to allow the brain time to process the moves.  The treatment may not feel like much, but over the next few days is when you start to really feel its affects.  You may feel a little worse, or sore, and this is very normal, and means that the bowen is working.
